Jimjilbangs in Korea

Visiting the Jimjilbang is a must when you're in Korea!

Its a fun experience and an extremely convenient and affordable accommodation if you don't feel like cabbing home after a late night shopping session. I prefer going there in the wee hours because almost everyone's sleeping and i get to use the whole spa to myself =p

After an exhausting 9-hour shopping session at Dongdaemun, it was already 3am and I didn't feel like cabbing home so I decided to just stay over in the Jimjilbang at Goodmorning City (one of the many shopping malls in Dongdaemun)!

It costs 10,000 won for an overnight stay, and you get access to various facilities like the sauna, spa, television, cafeteria, and air conditioned room etc. There are massage services within the jimjilbang as well, including head massage for 10,000 won i think, and a 40-minute calve/foot massage costing 20,000 won. It was kinda costly for me though, so i popped in 1000 won to use the 10-minute massage chair instead!

This is what you change into when you get into the Jimjilbang! By the way, its a norm to see naked people walking around when you go to the bath room, so be prepared if you're not used to this culture! I wasn't comfortable initially but I got used to it after a few visits.

When i went to the jimjilbang, it was already 3am at night so everyone was sleeping, except for the ahjussis who were watching the World Cup. I watched a bit with them before finding a cosy spot to sleep.

Here's the air conditioned room, in which encompasses an ice room which I bet you can't stay for more than 3 minutes...

Look at the ice room! The pipes are literally covered with ice Woke up the next morning around 10+ and chilled a bit before leaving the Jimjilbang!

1. Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Seoul Subway Lines 2, 4, and 5
2. Walk 10 meters from Exit #14 3. The Jimjilbang is at level B3.
